ABOUT THIS PIECE Portal I feels like a moving patch of ground. The surface is a deep mix of browns and rusty reds, like sun-baked soil. Dozens of little nubs push up out of the “dirt,” as if something underneath is trying to emerge. Up close it reads almost creature-ish and playful.
